Field trips
Senj's region offers many possibilities for one-day field trips. Near Senj, there are the world famous Plitvice Lakes, national park Northern Velebit, picturesque mountain settlement Krasno, attractive fiord Zavratnica and many other interesting and attractive places. With the natural beauties in Ličko-senjska county, this region is very attractive for all lovers of hunting. This is the reason for the fast growth of hunting tourism.
When you are in Senj, visit nearby touristic centers - Novi Vinodolski (20 km), Crikvenica (35 km) and the largest Croatian island - Krk, to which leads a bridge (about 60 km from Senj).
Plitvice Lakes
National park Plitvice Lakes is a special geological and hydrogeological karstic phenomenon. Plitvice Lakes were proclaimed a national park in 1949. Wide forests, exceptional beauties of lakes and waterfally, richness of flora and fauna, mountain air, autumn colour contrasts, forest paths and wooden bridges and many more are all part of the unique complex, which was proclaimed the world's natural heritage by UNESCO.
National Park Northern Velebit
The area of national park Northern Velebit is rich in karstic phenomena, living world and exceptional natural beauties in a rather small area. The area of the park covers 109 km2, and it also consists of the strict reservation Hajdučki and Rožanski kukovi, which are a specific geomorphological phenomenon with more than 150 discovered caves, the most famous being Luka's cave, one of the deepest caves in the world, discovered in 1999. Visitors are allowed to pass through the path called Premužićeva staza. Off the mountain peaks extends the beautiful view of the Adriatic sea and the islands Pag, Rab, Goli, Prvić and Krk and Lika's hinterland on the continental side.
Krasno - Natural Park Velebit
In the natural park Velebit, at the altitude of around 800 m, there is Krasno - one of the largest and the most beautiful mountain settlements in Croatia. It consists of 14 villages on the brinks of Krasno Polje, forrests and picturesque valleys around 7 km long. Krasno offers many possibilities for those who enjoy active rest in nature. In the summer, one can enjoy long walks, hiking or riding a bike, whereas in the winter, one can go sleigh riding or skiing in the arranged ski slope.
Hunting tourism
Hunting tourism in Ličko-senjska county, lead by hunting associations and private leaseholders, is very rich and diverse. Brown bear lives in mountain hunting grounds (Northern Velebit, Black Lake, Brinje).
On most of the county's hunting grounds, the most represented game is wild boar. Rugged terrains and habitats of good quality made growth of these species possible. On the southern side of Velebit, by the sea, on the hunting grounds "Sveti Juraj" and "Jablanac", one can hunt for mouflon, chamois and fallow deer. Of the smaller game in Ličko-senjska county, one can shoot Greek partridges, snipes, quails, pheasants and rabbits.
